Song

I learned this song in 2005, during the first year I lived in China. It is one of my favorite Chinese songs to sing. I have included a versions of the lyrics in pinyin, the Romanization of Chinese. Below that you will find the English translation of the meaning of each line in the song that also matches the rhyme scheme of the original Chinese.

I have recorded two version of the song that you can down load. One is just in Chinese, the other includes English lyrics in the middle of the Chinese version.

English translation that matches the rhyme scheme of the Chinese version:

Small Grass

I’m no flower fragant, nor tree tall
I am just an unknown grass and so small
I’m never lonely, I heed not worry’s call
Forever stretch the sea and sky, my friends are all

Spring wind oh spring wind, with you I turn green
Sunshine oh sunshine, I blaze with all your light
River oh mountain, you bring me up
Earth oh mother, you hug me so tight
